Windjamming West

On departure Cabrillo Anchorage I pulled anchor at sunrise to use the Northeaster,  a wind only useful in the mornings.  My anchor had drug a bit and set in sucky mud probably at least three feet under the mud and I used a chainhook and line on my winches to get it up.  The NEer pushed me away from the jetty and toward the exit of the LA port while I cleaned and stowed the anchor and I got a genoa and the main up before I left the port of LA.  I was able to sail the NEer well past Pt Vicente,  the most difficult stretch in a westerly wind.  A mile or so past Pt. Vicente the wind failed and I went fishing until hundreds of common dolphins (the most striking despite their names) surrounded the boat.   They played in the sea around the boat for a while until the west wind started,  foiling my plan to sail to Paradise Cove,  which was directly West.  I turned and reached to Marina del Rey, an easy sail to the northeast.  It was one of my lovliest days at sea!

I will stay here until after a storm passes and I attend to a VA appointment at West Los Angeles and then I hope to use the NEer method to reach Paradise Cove….or tack!
