My sail from Paradise Cove to Channel Islands Harbor was complicated by having again anchored too close to the kelp beds. The kelp beds in Paradise seem to grow daily and it is about a half mile to cover from the outer edge to the beach now. I fudged a bit and paid for it with a one hour wrestle with an anchor wrapped in kelp. After that the sail was, as usual, all directly against the wind and current and so a ten hour sail to cover thirty miles.
I returned to Channel Islands Harbor for the Veterans Conference in Ventura. Ventura Harbor is so poorly run I try to avoid it and friends are close to Channel Islands Harbor.
The veterans conference was well organized and I enjoyed seeing my friends there. The possibility of the region hosting the national convention in 2011 was not on the agenda so if Santa Barbara does it we will work with Ventura area and the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation. I will bring it up at the May meeting.
